This is our basement - the before picture. We've been wanting to build different shelves since we moved in 3 years ago- but we didn't know how to go about doing it ourselves... finally we decided it wasn't smart to do it ourselves because knowing our skills, it would have ended up looking like another version of this - and that's not what we wanted. So, we finally turned it over to the professionals. There is a guy in our ward (Phil Stoddard) that is a partner in a cabinet building company. We asked him if he could so something for us. He came over, drew up plans and gave us a quote - we said GO FOR IT!! :)
We took everything out and put it in boxes - this was about a week before the baby came. We moved the T.V. to our room (that was awful! the kids were always in my room, and leaving toys. The kind you trip over in the middle of the night when you get up to feed the baby!)
We tore down all the old wood and we were left with this - a blank wall. Looks like this must have been original to the house! Do you like the nice huge hole in the wall?? We didn't know exactly how to fix the hole, and we also needed to move a plug from that storage area under the stairs and make it fit into that hole somewhere. So we called the family expert - Trevor. He came over and taught Chris how to do all that. (that was the night I went into labor)
Two weeks later Phil came and installed our beautiful new entertainment center. Oh man - it looked so beautiful!!!! we were so excited. We sat and just looked at the wood for a week! We knew we wanted to buy a new tv for it, but we wanted to wait for Memorial Day sales. Friday night we had the opportunity to go look for a new flat screen. We had intended to buy a less expensive model, smaller size...but with a little encouragement we decided to super size that order :) We went all out. Now we can't seem to peel ourselves away from the screen. It is so amazing what we've been missing on our little tv... we just can't believe the difference. We really do love the upgrade. The only downside to this upgrade is that the rest of the basement now looks like white trash next to this beauty! But that will have to wait a while so we can build up our home improvement fund again - this one kind of wiped that out :)
